MUSICLOAD
JR Ewing and the others...
„You have an infallible instinct for bad timing,“ says the hat wearing, ranch tyrant and star of the TV-show „Dallas“ JR Ewing to his constant rival Cliff Barnes. One would feel obliged to tell the band JR Ewing the same thing. JR Ewing don`t want to be group anymore and they are sad about it. Everybody that has followed the career of the Postcore- formation from Oslo feels similar. Why now? Their lives have just been altered in an enormous way after playing some killer live- shows. The entire project has become something far bigger.
JR Ewing sum it up in their farewell letter to their fans:“ Our music is just as relevant now, as it was when we started out back in 98.“ Anybody that claims such a thing must have had the intent to push the envelope. Never to stop, to keep on going. Oneself and the fans. The numerous admirers thanked them, identified with them and supported them by showing up at their live- gigs. Just to point out, „why they are doing what they are doing“. As the band would put it. Maybe the fans have the power to influence the ensemble. A sort of democracy. A nice thought and the reason why the website exists. To illustrate clearly: Your time has not come yet! There is much more to share. Especially in a time in which JR Ewing has won over tons of new fans.
All based on their last album „Maelstrom“, a creative, explosive and extremely direct monster of a record. Undoubtedly original, hard, soft, aggressive, tame, everything in a very coherent way. A big step ahead in a future that could look quite different. It was one of their primary goals to challenge oneself. Never to adapt. Don`t be afraid to change- „Repetition Is Failure“. And „Maelstrom“ is supposed to be the end? How can that be possible? Definitely the wrong moment and hopefully JR Ewing are aware of this. The time has come to confront the fans. Take it further, beyond our wildest dreams. One destination, the prospect of tomorrow. That is what you do when you just built up a solid basis.
At the time being there is no plausible reason for the groups drastic decision. The true raison d`ètre is difficult to ignore. The thorn is their side is the relentless touring. „Gone for months, just to come back home and not be able to pay the current bills that have piled up on the kitchen table.“ Yes, enough to break a man. And we do understand. But...
JR Ewing are too important not to write music. Too essential for the moment and also down the stretch. An evolutional progression as the one we have witnessed here is seldom. Possibly Mars Volta has done so. A group were the word genius pops up on a regular basis. If JR Ewing would split up then it would come to a high cost for contemporary alternative music. This band must exist even if they would have to cancel some gigs.
A tour through Europe is still scheduled. It is advised to go there promptly and have tons of fun. Just to show them that there are people out there which are willing to fight for a band such as JR Ewing. And next time they will come to your town, as long as there is a next time, they will rock out and make sure that this band will continue to write fantastic songs.

JR EWING: 1998 - 2006
We are truly sad to announce that by the fall of 2006 JR Ewing will no longer be a band. After 8 years we feel it's time to move on. This has been a very hard decision for us, as we all love each others company and feel our music is as relevant today as when we started out in 1998. We hardly had any ambitions beyond playing a couple of shows for the hell of it, but it ended up being a life-altering experience that we feel very honoured and humble to have been a part of.
JR Ewing has been to over 20 countries in our time as a band, and we feel we've seen and experienced more in these 8 years than we expected to do in a lifetime. We've met an incredible amount of inspiring people who have encouraged us on our way, and made us feel welcome even when thousands of miles from home. There's been so many people who have come out to see us everytime we've visisted their town, sung our songs, bought our records, and made us understand why were were doing this. Also, many of you have come up to us and told us how we've affected things for you, and that's something we will always remember. We can't thank you enough.
It's hard to for us to explain what we've been trying to do with our music, but the one thing we know is that we have wanted to be challenging from day one. We have never compromised, even when it could've made things alot easier for us, and that is what will make our music still mean something when it's all over. We have tried to write about the things that has been occupying our minds, hoping that other people would understand what the hell we were talking about. We have not done what people have expected us to , and we've been unafraid of change. Repetition Is Failure.
Along the way it has been harder for the members involved to have the same agenda, especially when it comes to the touring aspect of being in JR Ewing. Being away from our loved ones for months only to return home to a pile of bills we couldn't pay has proven to be a challenging ordeal, which can make any man unhappy.
We are still the best of friends and we will be hanging out until we're old and in a wheelchair in some nursinghome, watching the videofootage we shot on tour while trying the drugs we didn't dare to do when we were young.
What now? Well, it's not over quite yet. There's a batch of shows that have been booked for a while which mostly includes festivals throughout the summer. We will be playing all of those, including the great Roskilde Festival in Denmark. We will also be playing some last shows in Norway in August/September, as well as a couple in central Europe.
We hope to see you all there, so we can make these last shows really count. We will be digging up some songs we haven't played for quite some time, so we promise something for everyone.
Well, that's it for now.
Thank you.
